Reform Jewish Congregation Milan

About us

Our Principles

  • Progressive Judaism - believes that the interpretation of Judaism in our daily lives and our obligations to Torah and God are in continual evolution, as the world changes, without however forgetting our heritage which is millenniums old.
  • Participation - Beth Shalom provides its members a warm, friendly synagogue where everyone is invited to contribute their ideas to the community.
  • Equality of Women - We believe , according to the principles of the progressive Jewish movement, women are equal partners in our religious ideals and the rituals of our synagogue. Families and friends sit and pray together.

Our Commitment

We are committed to the study, the wisdom and wonder of our religion, its texts, culture, and heritage.

  • We search for the values of each person in our community in order to create meaningful lives. We seek to experience the joy, the beauty, the depth of life. As a community of individuals and families, we celebrate our Jewish traditions and the important milestones of our lives. We strive to fashion an island of serenity within a complex, troubled world, and govern ourselves, to the extent that it is humanly possible, by what is rational, what is just, and what is humane.
  • We challenge ourselves to help improve the quality of human existence and heal a broken world, while guided by the values of Judaism.
  • And above all, we place at the very center of our being, the need to practice integrity, respect, and compassion in our dealings with each other, and all those we encounter along the way.

Our Activities

  • Worship and Prayer - We provide religous services, in a warm and friendly atmosphere according to the Reform/Liberal/Progressive tradition.
  • Education and Cultural Activities - We hold high the ideals of Jewish education: offering courses for adults, childrens and bar/bat mitzvah preparation) as well as meaningful, Jewish cultural activities  for the members of our synagogue as well as the Jewish community of Milan.
